This Ranger tug got a horizontal rigid style top made out of stainless steel, and a full enclosure with 40 mil O’Sea marine clear vinyl and Sunbrella with Solarfix PTFE thread. The owner wanted awnings that zip on to provide extra coverage for the fold out seats in the cockpit. Easy Access j-zippers were added to the main entrance and sides for moving forward easy.
Ranger Tugs present a lot of issues to design around. Same with Cutwaters. A standard style bimini top can’t be made correctly usually due to the fold out seats. So many fabricators try to make a standard style bimini that is too steep an angle, and then is lacking in tension where needed. We much prefer to build a horizontal style semi-permanent frame, since most owners never plan to fold the tops anyways. This allows a very tight well fitting top that also allows us to easily put our panel zipper breaks right were they are needed.
